Description

The challenges of serving remote customers are many.  Often these sites are located on mountain tops and other isolated locations with few customers, yet difficult and expensive to maintain and support with traditional grid T&D services. The obligation to serve remains the same, no matter what.

Southern California Edison and BoxPower have developed and are commissioning a remote grid at several isolated locations. This collaborative solution encompasses vendor-managed operation for service assurance, including asset control of solar, battery energy storage and fossil fuel based black-start and connectively into SCE system management and control system to enable purview into site conditions and system performance monitoring. To overcome potential cyber risks associated with the incorporation of these assets into the utility control environment, SCE is extending services to these operations using Proxy services integrated into their Grid Data Center.

This session will detail how SCE and partners achieved the aims of power delivery and resiliency in the roughest of both geographical and technological terrain.
