WJ (Willey) Sandell is the vice president of generation operations and development for American Municipal Power, Inc., where he is responsible for the management and oversight AMP’s generation fleet which includes AMP Fremont Energy Center, a nominal 700-MW natural gas combined cycle facility in Fremont, Ohio, five run-of-the-river hydroelectric generations facilities along the Ohio River, approximately 60 MWs solar portfolio, as well as AMP’s numerous distributed generation assets. Sandell is also the project manager for AMP Behind the Meter project which developed, built, and operated 20 diesel sites in three states. Sandell has more than 40 years of experience in the power and energy industries and is a leading expert in the areas of power plant management and generation project development. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from San Diego State University. He and his family reside in Columbus, Ohio.
