Sonya Harbaugh is the Director of Utility of the Future Strategy at Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE), where she leads initiatives to drive innovation and sustainability in the energy sector. With two decades of experience across regulated and deregulated energy markets, Sonya is a seasoned professional with a proven track record of navigating complex challenges, and delivering impactful solutions for customers and communities. Currently her team is focused on advancing digital equity in support of vibrant, healthy communities as well as shaping an equitable clean energy transformation in support of Maryland’s decarbonization goals. Prior to her current role, Sonya was the CEO and co-founder of Steer, an Exelon start-up that advanced electric vehicle adoption by offering EV subscription services to customers. Prior to that, Sonya held various leadership positions across Exelon and Constellation, developing new programs, exploring commercial models, establishing partnerships around clean energy technologies such as battery storage, behind-the-meter generators, and demand response. She has a deep understanding of the evolving energy landscape and is passionate about leveraging technology and collaboration to create a more resilient and efficient energy future. With a commitment to driving positive change, Sonya also serves on the Board of Directors in the role Vice Chair for Digital Harbor Foundation, a Baltimore-based non-profit unlocking opportunities for communities through access to STEM programming and disrupting the root causes of the digital divide.
