This presentation will explore how utility-driven microgrids are evolving from tactical emergency responses—such as wildfire-related Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS)—into strategic components of long-term utility planning. The discussion will highlight PG&E’s experience deploying microgrids across remote and vulnerable communities, and the emerging frameworks to institutionalize these assets within Integrated Resource Planning (IRP), Distribution Resource Plans (DRPs), and Grid Modernization strategies.
